The Experience of Filing Candidate Paperwork

As I drove from Highland to Crown Point on that January afternoon with my wife riding shotgun there was a feeling of excitement, anxiety, and nervousness I haven’t felt since our wedding day or the night I proposed to her. Actually the car-ride was very similar to one that took place before my proposal. Very quiet, I don’t think the radio was even on. At least I didn’t have to worry about the possibility of fumbling an engagement ring.
The sky’s were overcast with a slight mist as we walked up the stairs into the Lake County Government Center. As soon as you walk in to your left is the County Recorder's office.
“Look honey, it’s your future office”, my wife said with excitement.
After going through the metal detector we sat just outside the Board of Elections Office. Where I meticulously checked my candidate paperwork for the billionth time before my wife provided a much needed fresh set of eyes. We were good to go.
Then I finally filed and there was this great feeling of joy and relief as it was notarized and official copies were handed back. The gentleman said, “Good Luck”.
The next morning I went online to check who was on the ballot and there I was! It was official.
